It isn’t hidden that when he came back to power; he forced a few board directors to resign from their positions. According to the report by written by Stacy Perman, of the LA Times, a source close to one of the removed directors revealed that when the WWE directors carried out an investigation against McMahon prior to his resignation made him view them differently, especially thanks to his focus on loyalty.
“‘He’s the kind of person who expects loyalty,’ said someone close to one of the ousted directors, adding that McMahon viewed its investigation as an act of disloyalty, even though the board was doing its job,“ Perman said in the article.
He saw this as an act of disloyalty. The report also points out that the investigation might be the reason McMahon decided to step down from his position as WWE CEO and chairman last year.
WWE’s board of directors wanted McMahon to resign
There is no denying that McMahon birthed WWE. Though his father, Vince McMahon Sr. started this legacy, he is the one who revolutionized the business and took it to a whole new level. He has been a part of the Stamford-based promotion for over four decades.
Therefore, it must have been hard for him when he had to quit his position last year. People close to the board told the LA Times that, though reluctant to leave his position, McMahon had no choice but to vacant his seat because he was asked to do so.
“He said, ‘OK, do whatever you guys need to do. I’m not going to stand in your way.’ Of course, when the board said, ‘Well, you know, we think you need to step down,’. He wasn’t happy about it. But he did it,” this is what had happened prior to McMahon resigning in July last year, according to WWE board insiders.
