Vince McMahon was at the helm of the WWE for almost five decades. During his time with the promotion, he was not only involved in the business side of things. But also the creative aspect of the company. McMahon would be heavily involved in deciding storylines, feuds, and match finishes. So much so that any creative decision needed to go through him in order to see the light of day.
Many would admit that more often than none, the former Chairman’s creative choices were on par. But there is no denying the fact that sometimes he would come up with bizarre storylines or angles.

WWE legend Chris Jericho revealed one such strange suggestion from the former boss. Y2J was in London earlier this year as part of his Talk Is Jericho Podcast. During the episode, the current AEW star would talk about the biggest matches of his career. He would also bring up his 2002 Judgement Day match against Triple H. The match was in fact a dangerous Hell In A Cell clash. Jericho described how Vince McMahon came up with a weird idea while discussing the finish of the match.
Y2J revealed a crazy idea by Vince McMahon
Jericho said, “So then we thought, well, why don’t we do the finish on top of the cage? Hmm, that’s interesting and hadn’t been done at that point in time, right? And I remember when I pitched the idea, we pitched the idea to Vince. He’s like ‘Well, the idea of Hell in a Cell is nobody can get out of the door. How are you going to get up there?”

“And then think, well, maybe we can crawl up the inside? Vince said, ‘Well, there’s not a hole in the top of the cage, and how you going to crawl across?’ And then Vince goes, ‘Why don’t you take your arms and shoot some web to the top of the cage and slide up there?’ Like what? Triple H goes ‘He went and saw Spider-Man last night.” added the 8-time world champion.
The former Chairman is not new to strange creative choices
McMahon might have been trying to lighten the mood at the time. But it wouldn’t be a surprise if he actually considered the web-shoot idea. Especially given the fact that some of the storylines that he green-lit during his tenure were odd, to say the least.

The Hell in a Cell match usually involves some of the sickest bumps in wrestling history. The match between The Undertaker and Mankind at the 1998 King of the Ring specifically comes into mind. It involved The Phenom throwing Mankind off the roof of the cell onto the announce table. And who could forget the chokeslam through the roof and onto the ring that seriously injured Mankind?
