The name Vince McMahon is one of the most recognizable in the whole of WWE. There aren’t many who come close as far as his ruthlessness goes. There have been many notable instances where it has been on full display. Various performers have described their experiences with the former chairman. Legend John Cena once took a dig at his then-boss at a prestigious gathering, no less.
Prior to making it big in Hollywood, Cena entertained the masses for over a decade in the squared circle. He would have had numerous run-ins with his former boss during his illustrious career. Who better than the 16-time world champion to describe McMahon’s personality? Cena hosted the 2016 ESPYs awards and did a commendable job at that. He took many shots at the esteemed guests and also the former head of the promotion.

The Doctor Of Thuganomics said, “But I will admit there is one place that the WWE has you beat. The one thing we have that you don’t Vince McMahon. A maniacal billionaire pulling the strings behind the scenes, who uses every trick in the book to manipulate things to his advantage any way he can. Something like that is way too crazy for real sports.“
While Cena was obviously joking at the expense of Mr. McMahon, one cannot help but see the reality behind the joke. The latter left the WWE last year amid reportedly being involved in a hush money scandal.

He has since then methodically clawed his way back to the Stanford-based promotion. McMahon first returned to the board of directors and a few days later was voted as their head.
McMahon’s role in bringing wrestling to the mainstream
He is credited with bringing the wrestling community together and making it the global force it is today. McMahon certainly has some role in making Hulk Hogan and The People’s Champ Dwayne Johnson the household names they are today.

He can certainly claim some part of Cena’s success as well. However, the former chairman was criticized for way too long for losing his Midas touch.

John Cena definitely looked in his element while hosting the yearly awards. A successful career in Hollywood was just at the nascent stage for him back then. Vince McMahon would not have cared a jot about Cena’s dig at him. He knew having the face of his company on such a platform was only good for the business. A shrewd businessman like him would have been appreciative of the opportunity.
