Arnold Schwarzenegger is a true legend whose eminence goes beyond bodybuilding or Hollywood. He started as a professional bodybuilder who won notable accolades and broke records. Soon, he translated it into an acting career and earned more name and fame than he had earned previously. His stint as an actor saw him star in the majority of the action movies produced in the 1980s and 90s.
WWE Superstar John Cena is another star who started as a bodybuilder and later changed his career path. Cena was a competitive bodybuilder before becoming a WWE Superstar and an actor. Although he was not so successful as a bodybuilder, The Champ’s life changed when he joined WWE and has never had to look back ever since.

Now, it’s natural to wonder who, among The Austrian Oak and the 16-time WWE World Champion, would be the strongest. In an old video posted by John Cena, his record-breaking bench press can be remarkably visible. Because of his past as a bodybuilder and his history of intense training, Cena has a lot of strength which he uses while lifting heavy weights.
In 2015, Cena took to Twitter to post an update on that year’s bench press record in the NFL, while showcasing his. Cena wrote that the highest of that year was 473lbs. And, Cena, at the age of 38 years, bench-pressed 463lbs.

Meanwhile, The Governator, in his early golden years, had the bench press record of 400 lbs in the 1968 German Powerlifting Championships. However, Schwarzenegger’s highest, which came later in his career, is 525 pounds. Although Cena had a very short-lived bodybuilding career and has never competed in any prestigious competitions such as Mr. Olympia, like Schwarzenegger, this bench-press record of his is nothing less than remarkable.
What happened to John Cena’s career as a bodybuilder?
In 1998, The Leader of Cenation moved to Venice, California, after college, and joined the Gold’s Gym in that area. However, he was not financially stable then and had to work every odd job possible to survive there. It was at this time he started participating in various bodybuilding competitions as well.
During his time at Gold’s gym, he was also featured in an advertisement for the gym. It was later proved to be essential for his career.
