Twitter exploded on Friday night as WWE Superstar Andrade removed all mentions of WWE from his Twitter account. It was confirmed that the Lucha Libre Star had asked for his WWE release this past Monday Night on Raw. There was no update if WWE granted the release. But we finally know now!
WWE reportedly denied release request to Andrade
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided an update on Andrade requesting his release. The Observer reports WWE has turned down Andrade’s release request, which means the former NXT Champion will stay with the company for the foreseeable future.

There are no details regarding when his contract will expire. There are two ways the company and Andrade could go ahead from here – first, they either come up with a strong storyline to bring back Andrade into the fold. Second, the Mexican star sits at home collecting paychecks until his contract runs out.
Honestly, ‘La Sombra’ is too good a talent to be sitting on the sidelines. We understand how frustrated he must feel. After all, he’s been in oblivion for almost half a year now! Paul Heyman’s departure as the Executive Director of Raw hurt Andrade’s push big time.
The former United States Champion and his manager, former WWE Superstar, Zelina Vega, were written off TV following an attack from The Fiend and Alexa Bliss. Since then, nothing has fallen in place career-wise for the former Los Ingobernables De Japon leader.
Potential Reason WWE denied the release
Over the past year, many wrestlers who left the WWE have jumped ship to AEW. Take FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler), Sting, Miro, Paul Wight, and Christian as an example. These superstars are no minor stars, they are major stars, and Andrade could be a perfect fit in this list.
AEW has also shown interest to sign Andrade’s manager in WWE, Zelina Vega aka Thea Trinidad to the company. So the chances of Andrade following suit are very high!

WWE knows about Andrade’s talent, and they don’t want him to join the rival company. But instead of denying the release request, they must start working on how they’d use Andrade to his fullest potential in WWE programming. If not, then it’ll be yet another case of having gold but not knowing what to do with it.
