One such bizarre occurrence took place last year when a man got his name changed legally to famous WWE star John Cena.

You would have heard stories of how wrestling fans dress up as their favorite stars, use their catchphrases in real life, and whatnot. But one man took things quite to the next level. In the UK in 2021, a surprising incident took place where a man legally took the name ‘John Cena’.

A UK man explained why he changed his name to John Cena

John Cena has many fans across the globe and enjoys immense popularity among people. His fame and recognition as elevated further with his Hollywood career taking off. But even for Cena, who would have experienced his fair share of bizarre fan encounters in his career, the story of Lewis Oldfield would be one of a kind.

In 2021, Lewis Oldfield, who was about 23 years old at that time, had a few drinks with his friends. One of Oldfield’s friends then bizarrely challenged him to change to the famous wrestler’s name.

Although he was drunk, Oldfield followed up on the bet and kept his word. He changed his name to the 16-time World Champion. Recalling the incident, he told the British news outlet The Sun, “We’d had a few drinks and were play-wrestling. We were just messing around, pretending to do announcements like in WWE and one of my friends was introducing John Cena.”

Thus, Oldfield was challenged to change his name to John Cena.

Oldfield also said that he initially thought of getting a tattoo, but then decided to keep his promise. He added, “I was going to get a tattoo saying it but did this instead.”

Moreover, the man had reportedly $55 and filled out all the legal documents required. Further, he also paid $104 for a passport carrying his new legal name.

Oldfield, who belongs to Bradford, UK, said he didn’t mind the name and will keep it.
