WWE and UFC are major names in the fight circuit currently. Both companies are famous for organizing mega events with sellout crowds. Another thing that the companies share is ruthless superiors, whether in the past or the present. While Dana White has been the UFC president for over 20 years now, Vince McMahon completed a total of five decades at the helm of WWE before stepping down earlier this year.

In an unexpected turn of events once, UFC held the 2010 UFC Fight Night on a Monday night. In the process, the company went face to face with the longest episodic show on television, Monday Night Raw. As a result, Dana White was asked about any plans for future event clashes with WWE and Vince McMahon in a press conference.

He responded, “I mean we’re not trying to go against him. That night is the night Spike wanted the fight. Spike wanted the fight that night, so that’s the night they called for it and Vince goes into war mode. He’s calling up (Mike) Tyson. He’s bringing this guy back and the Rock might come back. I love it. He’s a f***ing animal. You’ve never heard me say we’re going to kick the sh*** out of Monday Night Raw.”

Those guys pull killer ratings. It’s been like the highest rated show on television forever. We’re just putting a fight on Monday night because Spike wants us to,” the UFC President went on to add, dismissing any future event clashes.

The UFC vs WWE Ratings for the night

It did not come as a surprise to many as WWE trumped the rating battle for the night. The Monday Night Raw show was an established show on Mondays and McMahon didn’t leave any stone unturned in order to beat the MMA promotion.

Iron Mike aka Boxing great Mike Tyson was also roped in to bolster the ratings for WWE and he did not disappoint.

Vince McMahon was not a stranger to Monday Night Wars

The WWE had previous experience with other promotions challenging its Monday night dominance. Wrestling fans still talk about the famous Monday Night Wars with the erstwhile WCW in the 90s. The promotion did face a stiff challenge then and had to devise The Attitude Era to win that particular war.

In hindsight, Dana White’s comments about McMahon did prove right. The UFC President did state that he wasn’t competing with WWE. But he would have expected much better numbers from his pay-per-view. And the former WWE Chairman with his grasp of the business and previous experience of thwarting other promotions, came up with just the right plan.
