Recently Tyler Rust appeared on the latest episode of the ROH Strong Podcast. The former WWE Superstar had recently made his return to ROH at Death Before Dishonor, where he got the win over Jake Atlas.
While Rust has competed in other companies, the wrestler is best known for his time in the WWE. During the interview, Rust opened up about his time at WWE.
Rust claimed to be delighted during his WWE days in the beginning. On December 2, 2020, Tyler Rust made his NXT debut where he appeared alongside Timothy Thatcher in a Thatch-as-Thatch Can segment. Soon after that, Rust worked on the NXT weekly show, along with Malcolm Bivens.

Later, Rust became a member of The Diamond Mine, along with Malcolm Bivens, Roderick Strong, and Hachiman. The Diamond Mind made their debut on NXT in June as they laid down an attack on the NXT Cruiserweight Champion Kushida. This attack ultimately led to a match between Roderick Strong and Kushida in which the latter lost his title.
Rust clearly enjoyed his time in NXT and was pleased with how his career was going. However, later on, he admitted that while everything was going well, WWE suddenly asked him to leave, most probably due to budget issues. Rust claimed that the news stunned him.
Rust said, (h/t: WrestlingNews.co), “I can’t complain about a single thing while I was there, honestly. Just out of nowhere, suddenly, hey, I know this is going great for you, but we need to let you go. It’s still very baffling to think about, but I don’t dwell on those negative things. It’s all about moving forward and handling those unknowns as best you can.”

Rust added, “He looked up my matches online. He pulled me into a meeting in his office and we had a great talk.”
“He told me, ‘Hey man, I looked up your stuff. I don’t know who you are, but I love your work. I love your look, and I think you can be something really big here. ’ Hearing this from Shawn Michaels, it’s like, ‘Wow, ok.’”
