While WWE might have a number of intersecting storylines, with wrestlers often pitted against each other, it’s not uncommon to see on-screen rivals as friends. There have been several instances of long-time rivals becoming friends as their careers progressed together. The same can be said for John Cena.

In a recent clip posted by a fan, Cena was seen hugging it out with a former rival of his. While the two haven’t gone head to head in a long time, the two paths that the wrestling legends have taken converged, allowing the two to reminisce about old rivalries. In short, it seems that while the two might have gone against each other in the ring, there seems to be an abundance of respect between the two.

John Cena embraces an old rival as a legend

On Saturday evening, the fan account shared a clip of Rey Mysterio as he was seen walking down the ramp after SmackDown. The leader of the Latino World Order extended his hand to John Cena. Cena shakes his hand and hugs the 48-year-old star. The video captioned, “Rey Mysterio hugs Cena after Smackdown. Legends” shows that the two stars have retained their respect for each other over the years. 

Now, while Rey Mysterio and John Cena might have had their own rivalries in the past, the two have worked together as recently as 2021, when John Cena teamed up with Mysterio and his son in a dark match against The Bloodline. The history between the two goes back to as early as 2002 when Mysterio and Cena teamed up with Edge against Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, and Kurt Angle on what appeared to be a star-studded match at SmackDown.

Now, with the recent clip coming to the fore, fans decided to reminisce about their favorite moments between Cena and Mysterio.

Fans came in to share their comments on it. A couple of fans acknowledged the legends in the clip.

While Cena has already been termed ‘The GOAT’, another fan deemed Mysterio worthy of the same title.

One fan pointed out how the stars happened to have a great impact on the world of pro wrestling.

As mentioned before in their star-studded SmackDown match, another fan said that the era of these two stars is back.

In 2011, Rey Mysterio was challenged by John Cena out of the blue. This happened as he was celebrating his win against The Miz when John Cena came up to challenge him once again. But Mysterio eventually lost to The Leader of The Cenation. A fan commented after seeing them hug that Mysterio might be having flashbacks from the unfortunate night.

Regardless, fans could agree that both stars have put on an exceptional show since their respective debuts. With their recent wins at the Fastlane, they both still prove to be the dominating forces of the promotion. What is your favorite moment from their career?
