When Brock Lesnar made his debut in 2002, he was dubbed “The Next Big Thing” right off the bat. Lesnar’s formidable size and freakish strength made him a force to be reckoned with. Over the years, there have been very few stars who have vanquished The Beast Incarnate. Yet, in a rather astonishing revelation, Brock Lesnar has submitted or tapped out on four occasions during his tenure in WWE. Notably, two of these instances were the handiwork of WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.

Much like Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle is a revered name in pro wrestling. Angle boasted an impressive Olympic career before he arrived in WWE. He and Lesnar had some of the most classic matches together. So when did Kurt Angle make Brock Lesnar tap out?

Kurt Angle recalls making Brock Lesnar tap out on two occasions

To this day, making Brock Lesnar tap out is considered inconceivable. But, Kurt Angle was the first-ever star to achieve that feat. While speaking on an edition of The Kurt Angle Show, the Olympic Hero was asked if he knew how many times Brock Lesnar has tapped out in his career.

Angle responded, stating that he had tapped him out twice. In addition, Angle thought he was the only one who made Lesnar submit. He said, “Well, I made him tap twice, so twice”. Lesnar tapping out to Kurt Angle doesn’t come as a surprise, as Angle was well-known as a wrestling machine during his prime. 

The first time Lesnar tapped out to Angle was at SummerSlam 2003. After a grueling battle, Angle retained his WWE Championship by submitting Lesnar in spite of Vince McMahon’s interference.

Moving on, the second time that Brock Lesnar tapped out was on an episode of SmackDown in 2003. Lesnar and Angle collided in a 60-minute Ironman Match with the WWE Championship at stake. 

Although Lesnar won the Ironman match, at one point in the match, he tapped out to the Ankle lock. Aside from Angle, Chris Benoit is the only one who was able to force Lesnar to tap out on two occasions. He first did it during a traditional Survivor Series match involving Team Angle and Team Lesnar. The second time was during a WWE Championship match on SmackDown. Benoit made Lesnar tap out but the official was down, Lesnar later won the match via TKO.

Outside of WWE, Brock Lesnar has submitted to Frank Mir in his first-ever UFC bout. Nonetheless, In WWE, only Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit were the ones to beat Brock Lesnar via submission. As tough as Brock Lesnar is, Kurt Angle definitely had his number. Angle also knows Brock Lesnar very well in real-life. That said, he once revealed Brock Lesnar’s true nature toward wrestling

During an old interview with RFvideo, Kurt Angle relayed that he and Brock Lesnar had a “shoot-wrestling” match when the cameras weren’t rolling. According to Angle, one of the boys in the locker room asked Lesnar how he’d fare against the Olympic Hero.

A young and arrogant Lesnar overlooked Angle’s Olympic caliber and said he’d “kill him” because he was “too small”. Angle then went on to say that the duo locked up for about 15 minutes and that it was a “tight match”. However, Lesnar was not able to take Angle down throughout their match.
