In the world of pro wrestling, WWE reigns as one of the biggest and most beloved shows worldwide, cherished by millions of fans. However, the wrestling giant faces stiff competition from its prominent rival, AEW (All Elite Wrestling)

The two companies previously clashed in a viewer war known as the “Wednesday War,” which ended two years ago. Now, WWE seems determined to reignite the rivalry and monopolize the coveted Wednesday night spot after Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley brought immense success to NXT after their recent appearance.

The Wednesday Wars Between The WWE and the AEW

The clash between WWE’s NXT and AEW’s Dynamite showcased the rivalry at its peak. Both programs, airing on Wednesdays, competed fiercely for viewers’ attention. Ultimately, AEW Dynamite emerged victorious, leading WWE NXT to shift its airing day to Tuesdays. Nevertheless, NXT, the WWE’s third major program, is now gaining popularity. According to  Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE wants NXT to compete against AEW Dynamite again.

The presence of two over-stars in WWE, Dominik Mysterio, and Rhea Ripley could be a significant driving force behind WWE’s renewed optimism.

The recent episode of NXT which saw Dominik Mysterio capture the NXT North American Championship had a 746,000 total viewers which took it past AEW Collision from the previous Saturday.

In a bold and ambitious move, WWE plans to shift NXT back to Wednesdays. It can spell trouble for AEW Dynamite as NXT’s ratings continue to soar. 

Wednesday Night Wars: The Sequel?

With NXT returning to the mid-week battlefield, the stage is set for a thrilling rematch between the two powerhouse shows. WWE is banking on its well-equipped locker room. It has witnessed the appearances of stars like Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin

in recent weeks and the addition of Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley could further help boost the profile of the show owing to their popularity. Now that Dominik also holds the NXT North American Championship we could see more appearances from The Judgement Day members on the show.

The Wednesday Wars initially spanned from October 2019 to April 2021, with AEW Dynamite claiming the upper hand.

However, the immense fan support for the talented duo of Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio serves as a beacon of hope for WWE’s ambitious aspirations. Only time will reveal the outcome of this ambitious gamble, leaving the wrestling world on the edge of its seats in anticipation.
