In this modern era of pro wrestling, WWE places its female talent equally important as its male talent. For the past few years, WWE has done its best to push the women’s division to new heights. From changing their status from ‘diva’ to ‘female wrestlers’ to giving them equal opportunities as men, WWE has come a long way.
However, this was not the case a few decades ago. The company’s Attitude era was notorious for plots and storylines that were filled with sexism, debauchery, and the mistreatment of female stars. WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus recently spoke of how the Stamford-based promotion misused its female superstars in the past.

Recently, the 7-time Women’s Champion sat down alongside Cheryl Hickey for an interview with ET Canada. During the interview, the WWE icon gave a glimpse into how the pro wrestling company treated its female employees a few decades ago.
She stated that in the past, WWE utilized its female talents as an “accessory” to their plots and stories. The company never saw the true potential of the women and always sidelined them. WWE only used them as a prop for “enhancing the male talents.”
Status added that at the time the female stars had no say in the company. And at one point, she felt like she needed to “be the voice” for all those ladies in the locker room that were being mistreated only because they were women.
Despite her concerns with the past, Stratus exclaimed that the women’s division has evolved for the better in the present.
