There is no hiding that Triple H and WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels are still amazing friends. The iconic duo formed one of the greatest tag teams the WWE has ever seen. Besides that, they’re still two incredibly influential names in professional wrestling.

However, things took an unfortunate turn when Shawn Michaels had to announce retirement in his 30s because of his back injury, which he suffered during a coffin match against The Undertaker at the Royal Rumble ’98 PPV.

NXT’s executive producer, Triple H, revealed a touching conversation which he had with Michaels’ mother when Shawn came back to WWE in 2002. Michaels’ comeback was to face The Game himself, in a match which The Heartbreak Kid won.

Triple H made a promise to Shawn Michaels’ mother

Triple H recently appeared on the WWE Network show ‘Ruthless Aggression’, where ‘The King of Kings‘ almost teared up while recalling the time when he chatted with HBK’s mom because she was still concerned about Shawn’s injury.

“You fast forward to getting to that day, Shawn walked off to say something to somebody, and there was his mom. I don’t recall her saying anything, but just the look. Grabbed her hand, looked her in the eye, and said, ‘I will let nothing happen to your boy. I promise you.’ She gave me a hug and was emotional and walked off.”

On the show, Triple H confessed that even he didn’t know if Shawn was completely healthy or not. He was worried about worsening HBK’s injury during the match.

“It was a moment there that made me realize like, ‘Holy s***.’ If they’re all that worried – I mean, I get it, it’s his mom, I get it, and all the other stuff – but if they’re all worried about him, what the f***, physically, how bad [is he]? I don’t know, is he bulls****ing me and it’s all broken and the first time I hit him he’s gonna shatter? I don’t know, I have no idea.”

Eventually, when the two best friends faced each other at the SummerSlam 2002 PPV, it went on to become one of the most brilliant matches that the company ever produced.
