In a recent interview, AEW world champion Jon Moxley revealed that WWE’s Roadblock event was one of his favorite moments in WWE.

In the weeks before WrestleMania 32, WWE decided to have Roadblock. This event took WWE back to its origins. The entire atmosphere felt like something Hulk Hogan would step into.

Roadblock reminded us of how WWE used to be, and it’s nice to see WWE recreating that memory so well. They often like dialing back the glorious days when the business wasn’t as big as it is now.

Moxley said that his match against Triple H at Roadblock made him feel even better than the feeling at WrestleMania. He described it as an “NWA mid-south” feeling that plucked some strings.

Previously known as Dean Ambrose, Moxley was obviously hyped for the match. Growing up watching NWA and WWF, he obviously idolized men like Dusty Rhodes, Hogan, Andre the Giant, and similar wrestlers of that era.

Jon Moxley was reminded of his childhood when he aspired to be a wrestler.

It must have been like a dream come true for him. It takes a miracle to bring one face to face with one’s heroes, and more so to actually perform with them on the very screen that one watched as a young fan.

He cherished this moment. Moxley adds that there was also a lot of psychological warfare going on between him and Triple H. The two were going to face each other in mere hours.

Naturally, they had to discuss their in-ring moves with one another, but Moxley admitted that both of them wanted to remain classy and keep to their corner. Apparently, this was some form of intimidation.

He says that he deliberately arrived late. He then waited for Triple H to send someone to call him for the talk. Maybe these mind games are the reason why he was called, ‘The Lunatic Fringe’ back in WWE.

Moxley concludes that he lived for moments like those. He preferred matches with atmospheres like his Triple H bout, compared to those overhyped of WrestleMania cards.

As Dean Ambrose, Moxley added that he would have liked to see much more like Roadblock during his stint at WWE. Moxley left WWE after his dissatisfaction with the roles that he was assigned.
