Top Female AEW Star Feels Leaving Vince McMahon’s WWE Was a Game-Changer for Her Career: “Just Being a Little Snarky A**hole at Times on TV”

WWE is the company that has been ruling the professional wrestling world since its inception. Whereas it is a dream for most wrestlers to step inside Vince McMahon’s company, for some, the feelings are not the same.

And the top AEW star Athena (formerly known as Ember Moon) is on the minority side who believes that her current run in AEW is way better than that of WWE.

Athena feels more satisfied with her career outside the WWE

Recently, the AEW star Athena joined Renee Paquette on her podcast “The Sessions”. During the podcast, a segment came when Renee asked Athena about her almost-a-year-old run with AEW. To this Athena unabashedly reflected back on her professional wrestling career for the past couple of years.

The ROH women’s world champion said that she has accomplished a lot since she joined Tony Khan’s AEW and Ring of Honor. She even mentioned that she has developed a lot in terms of various aspects now as compared to her last two or three years run at WWE. 

Reflecting on her career, Athena said, “It’s wild, it’s crazy (talking about completing almost a year with AEW)……It was just like, I haven’t even been here a year yet. This is just everything that I’ve accomplished. I feel like I’ve done so much since I’ve been with AEW, since I’ve been with Ring of Honor that I’m like, this is more than what I’ve done in two, three years at WWE I feel like as far as character development, as far as having these matches every single week, day in, day out, just being a little snarky a**hole at times on TV which I thoroughly enjoy.”

Athena started off well in WWE development territory NXT, but things started to go downhill after her main roster debut.

A quick glimpse of Athena’s career in Vince McMahon’s company

Athena stepped inside WWE in 2015. She captured the women’s title during her first NXT run. She entered the main roster division in the 2018 Royal Rumble. Even after her amazing NXT career, Athena failed to win fans’ hearts. And in 2020, they assigned her back to NXT. Although she won the tag team championship there, soon after that, WWE released her.

A year after her departure from WWE, Athena joined AEW and ROH in 2022. Currently, she is the ROH women’s world champion and seems satisfied with her current run.
