Is Tonga Loa's move to NXT a game-changer, or will his botches hold him back?

Tonga Loa has been the centerpiece of the attention of the WWE Universe but for all the wrong reasons. The prized Tongan wrestler has a dangerous knack for making blunders during matches inside the squared circle. Subsequently, IWC made a monkey out of all his recent hilarious botches and made him quite an internet sensation within days. That said, this social media fame may work against him in the eyes of the leading wrestling promotion in the world. They keep elevating Loa’s spot in the faction by making him the new tag team champion.

However, a NXT stint could also be on the horizon for the 41-year-old. At least, an Instagram post comment from the assistant general manager of the developmental brand heavily alluded to the prospect.

What’s Tonga Loa’s NXT connection? Explained.

Solo Sikoa snubbed Tonga Loa as he deployed his faction to hunt for the tag team gold a few weeks back. It turned out his decision was not wrong, as Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu, the chosen pair, clinched the title from Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa of DIY ahead of SummerSlam 2024. But the PLE came off as an inhibitor to Fatu who accidentally injured himself while attacking Cody Rhodes in a high-stakes main event match. It led him to go off the TV for a few weeks. In the meantime, Loa stood as the half of the tag team champs alongside his brother Tonga. Fatu quickly reverted to last week’s Raw and held the title again until the self-acclaimed Tribal Chief wanted him to return it to Loa.

With a little discontent in his eyes, the Samaon Werewolf officially handed his title to Loa. It marked the rare event of becoming a champion without jumping into a fight. Fans didn’t take it well and demanded a NXT departure for him. They think his extremely average antics will suit the Black and Yellow brand and not the Bloodline.

But little did they know, Loa really has a strong connection with the developmental brand as the assistant manager, Stevie Turner, acknowledged him in an Instagram comment, indicating their strong camaraderie.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Tonga Loa's move to NXT a game-changer, or will his botches hold him back?

Have an interesting take?

It sparked quite the obvious question: Is he training at the performance center nowadays and hence bonding well with Turner? Or is there a more serious call brewing underneath? While only time can give us an adequate answer, let’s look at another recent comparison involving the botch king.

Fans draw a parallel between Tonga Loa and a prominent AEW star

WWE and AEW swap talents more often than not. Whenever a wrestler’s performance doesn’t live up to expectations, an impromptu demand to send him off to Tony Khan’s business emerges. But in the case of Loa, the rumor swirled from AEW’s Hook, who sold a similar eye-patch angle to Loa during AEW All-In. Fans immediately jumped on to making hilarious comparisons to Loa who has been brutally criticized in the past for not being able to sell it properly. People also drew comparison between Nick Wayne’s Mumma (Momma Wayne) to Tonga Loa as she got to hold the title for just standing in the ring.
