Tonga Loa was re-introduced to WWE at Backlash in France this year when he showed up to help Roman Reigns‘ Bloodline stand victorious against two formidable foes. At the time, his name was Tanga Loa. Since then, he stuck with the group and eventually got officially inducted as a member of the Anoa’i family stable in the absence of the real Head of the Table. Nevertheless, he hasn’t given his full commitment to the WWE as evidenced by a peculiar fact.
This anointment happened during the last Friday Night SmackDown episode. By the time he officially became a member of the faction, his name was changed to Tonga Loa by the company to match the last name of his sibling. But it appears that he hasn’t completely accepted it.

The Tongan wrestler was introduced as ‘Tanga Loa’ to the WWE fans. However, after WWE’s trademark filing was successful, they switched his name to Tonga Loa. Despite the big change and the acquisition of the rights to this name, the wrestler continues to use the name he was given upon his return to France. On both of his social media accounts, including X and Instagram, Loa is using ‘Tanga’ as his first name. Although the reason behind this is unknown, one justification could be that WWE may have instructed him not to change anything, as they plan to make use of all the names that he currently has as ‘official’ WWE names.

The other reason could be because of the imminent arrival of Hikuleo from NJPW as he makes his way into the Stamford-based promotion. The WWE has yet to reveal the entirety of the puzzle in the compelling Bloodline narrative. Perhaps the entry of Hikuleo, who is his adoptive brother, and his subsequent initiation, could force the SmackDown star to alter things and showcase a unified front. Another reason could be that the former NJPW star doesn’t want to shed the entirety of the identity he amassed while with the Japanese wrestling promotion. The air of familiarity that exists with the name Tanga Loa could still benefit him in real life with merchandise sales and other commercial opportunities.
Nevertheless, he is the only wrestler from Roman Reigns’ faction currently who is not openly displaying his new name. In the meantime, the other Tongan WWE talent who happens to be his brother, is proudly showing to the world that he has not one, but three official nicknames within the Stamford-based company.
