Tommy Dreamer Feels Guilty for 58-Year-Old ECW Legend’s Debilitating Health: “It’s a Burden”

People have always regarded pro wrestling as fake or scripted, but they forget to observe a wrestler’s career. Pro wrestling is a sport where the competitors pour their hearts and body into entertaining the audience. This means that they put their body on the line every single week for the fans who cheer them on. No one knows this better than ECW legend Tommy Dreamer.

Going through tables and jumping off ladders was the norm for Dreamer. But unlike other wrestlers on WWE, Dreamer also regularly involved the use of tube lights and thumbtacks in his matches. But after four decades of hardcore wrestling, Dreamer expressed regret after hearing about his dear friend and former wrestler having health complications from his hardcore days.

Tommy Dreamer expresses guilt over his part in a wrestler’s deteriorating health condition

In an exclusive interview with PWMania, Dreamer talked about the style of hardcore wrestling that made him famous around the world. He also goes into detail about his current feud with Bully Ray Dudley. The interviewer asked him about potential helping hands that he could call upon to come out to beat up Dudley, and he mentioned former WWE Hardcore champion, Raven.

He replied, “The reason why I wouldn’t give Raven the call is that Raven’s health isn’t the best. And I look at Raven, and I’m like, Did I do that? Did I cause someone that? I mean, the chair shot heard around the world? Did I cause Raven to have health issues later on in his life? Seriously, it’s a big burden because, dude, I love everybody that I worked with.”

When ECW came under the umbrella of WWE, the company drafted both legends to the new ECW. But the new show didn’t have enough hardcore wrestling and soon both of them left the company.

But as they aged, both Raven and Dreamer held off on amazing the audience with their hardcore antics. While this hardcore wrestling was exciting at the moment, it had a tremendous impact on their body. Whereas Raven might only have suffered health complications in his old age, some wrestlers lost their lives in hardcore wrestling.
