Ever since he failed to capture the World Heavyweight Championship from Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins a few weeks ago, Drew McIntyre has gone on a rampage. His journey to championship glory seems to have hit a roadblock with several obstacles hindering his goals. Frustrated, he has chosen the dark side for now. Being the remorseless ‘Scottish Warrior’ he is, he has been destroying whoever he deems responsible for his failure to win a belt by now. And in this pursuit, one such victim was Sami Zayn.

The Chosen One defeated Zayn in a singles match on the December 4 edition of RAW. However, this wasn’t enough for him, as he later attacked Zayn backstage. The attack led to a partially torn meniscus for Sami. With a feud this intense, could we see Zayn returning at the Royal Rumble? Would eliminating McIntyre build a good storyline? Let’s see why it would be a good booking decision to do so.

The next chapter of an intense rivalry

No pro wrestler in the world wants to miss TV time. They are aware of the fact that taking long gaps could lead to losing momentum with fans. The fickle nature of the sport can lead a person from superstardom to obscurity. And if one is out because of an injury, then it doubles up the pressure, as one also wishes to return at their full capacity.

Now, with the injury gifted to him by Drew McIntyre, Sami Zayn too would like to give something to return the favor. And what better than taking away the only thing the ‘Chosen One’ has been chasing for a few months: championship glory. Eliminating the Scottish Warrior would be the perfect payback and continuation for a feud that ends in WrestleMania 40.

Jey Uso to face Jimmy Uso at WrestleMania

Ever since Jey Uso made his way to the red brand, Drew McIntyre has been at loggerheads with him. His vendetta against the former Bloodline member has only escalated, as the Scottish warrior has not forgotten the suffering that the Bloodline had caused him. This has led McIntyre to have several backstage brawls with Jey Uso.

However, even the WWE would know that the Sami Zayn storyline seems like a better opportunity, especially with the murmurs of a brother vs brother showdown between Jey and Jimmy Uso at the Grandest Stage of Them All. This would also allow Jey to put his demons finally behind him as he settles his issues with The Bloodline once and for all.

Jey Uso also once revealed his keenness on the prospect of this matchup. He said, “Before our careers are done, that’s our number-one dream of happening. Me vs. him (Jimmy) at WrestleMania. Me being against my brother, my heart would be filled with joy.”

A win over Zayn could legitimize McIntyre’s heel turn and elevate him further in stature

The return of a superstar post-injury is always an emotional scene. And if it had been a top babyface, then it would take no time for fans to get his or her back. And with Sami Zayn being one of the top babyfaces in the company, his return to defeat Drew McIntyre would be what every fan would dream of.

But what if he fails? The resentment towards the heel would establish McIntyre as a more despicable being for the WWE Universe. And maybe this is what the promotion wants. Sami Zayn returns to eliminate McIntyre, giving hopes of a successful revenge story at WrestleMania 40, only to be beaten by the Chosen One. Establishing him as the biggest heel in the promotion. And maybe they will also bring back ‘Broken Dreams’ to establish the moment further.
