Former WWE Champion CM Punk has not stopped speaking his mind on WWE’s product ever since he made his way to Fox’s payroll to do the same, on their WWE Backstage TV show.

The Voice of the Voiceless was joined by former WWE Superstars, Booker T, and Christian this week, as all three men took turns and gave their honest opinion on the product.

They had an in-depth discussion on WWE’s usage of Jeff Hardy and his past rife with substance abuse for a SmackDown segment.

The Jeff Hardy “DUI” angle has received heavy criticism from the fans because of the dark history Jeff has had with the problem. Punk echoed this sentiment as he talked about his past with Hardy.

He reminisced about the nature of his relationship with Jeff and revealed that the Charismatic Enigma was not in a good spot mentally or physically, even during that period of his career.

Punk then said this on the matter:

“My thing with this segment and this story is that I believe somebody’s sobriety is very fragile and very important. We discussed whether they should do this with Jeff or shouldn’t do this with Jeff. We talk about how Jeff was okay with it. Maybe, it’s his idea, he green-lit it, thumbs up.

“I think cleaning your life up and being sober is something to be proud of. We can champion that in different ways. I think this is the wrong way to go about it. You just don’t put him in front of that moving car.”

CM Punk might have been accurate here on the fact that Jeff green-lit the segment. Hardy is in a superior position in the company and he would have the right to say no to a segment.

CM Punk and his history with alcoholic segments

CM Punk can bury the company on the matter because of the alcoholic segments he was forced to be a part of even though he is straight-edge and refuses to consume alcohol or any substance.

He was forced to give a sobriety test on live TV in a segment with Teddy Long during his time as the WWE Champion.

During his feud with Chris Jericho, WWE booked an angle where Jericho poured alcohol on Punk’s body. Jericho also smashed the bottle on the back of his head to get some cheap heat.

No one in the wrestling community approves of these segments. Substance abuse is a serious issue and it shouldn’t be a part of the Kayfabe world. Hopefully, WWE will not repeat such a storyline after the Hardy-Sheamus feud ends.
