Tuesday Night NXT kicked off with the Heritage Cup Championship match between Noam Dar and Chad Gable. Gable wanted to prove a point through this match after his brutal loss against Shinsuke Nakamura on RAW. But as the match progressed, fans couldn’t help themselves from paying respect to Kurt Angle.

Just like Angle, Gable was an amateur wrestler who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Noam Dar got the initial advantage by going one up in the six-round Heritage Cup match. And just as fans thought that Chad Gable would lose the match, he won round 5.

But during the course of the match, Gable tried to use the Ankle Lock multiple times to win the bout. This obviously led to fans reminiscing about their beloved Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle. The crowd in attendance went on to do an Angle Chant with Gable’s name.

Sadly, in the last round, Gable applied a final Ankle Lock, which Dar supposedly tapped out to. But according to the referee, he didn’t. Thus, the match ended in a tie which meant that Noam Dar retained his championship.

He said, “If you look just at the wrestling aspect of it, for example, obviously somebody like Chad Gable is the best opponent for me because those kinds of guys, — same with Riddle or even years ago, Tim Thatcher, Zack Sabre Jr. — those were always guys I loved to wrestle because they are those naturally gifted grapplers… It just goes very well with my style”. So maybe we might see another Gunther and Gable title match soon. But why do you think fans are still cheering for Kurt Angle so many years after his retirement?
