Hulk Hogan had a successful run as the face of WWE for many years. He replicated that success with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in the 90s as the leader of nWo. However, during both of his tenures, many wrestlers blamed Hogan for politicking and using his influence to remain at the top. This also included ‘The Hulkster’ getting his ‘win back’ after losing out to a fellow competitor. A former WWE legend who wrestled him at WrestleMania took a shot at Hogan’s ‘insecurity’.

At WrestleMania VI, Hulk Hogan battled The Ultimate Warrior in an iconic champion vs champion dream match. Warrior, the Intercontinental Champion won the WWE Championship after defeating Hogan clean in an exciting bout. This was a big moment since Hogan rarely lost clean when he was with WWE. Although this was the beginning of a new era with Warrior, he couldn’t capitalize on the momentum. Both legends would later find themselves in the sinking ship that was WCW.

The Ultimate Warrior, who passed away in 2014, once said that Hogan wanted to get a win over him and that is why WCW signed him in 1998.

The Warrior said Hulk Hogan had an insecurity complex

During WCW’s rapid rise and subsequent fall, they signed a lot of ex-WWE wrestlers, including Randy Savage, Kevin Nash, Bret Hart, and most notably, Hulk Hogan.

When WCW signed Hogan in 1993, he had creative control of his character and used it to full effect. He found great success as the heel, Hollywood Hogan, with nWo as WCW gained an edge over WWE.

However, after the initial boom, WCW was faltering. As a result, the signing of The Ultimate Warrior was an attempt to recapture some momentum. WCW immediately pitted him against his legendary rival, Hulk Hogan.

The two rivals wrestled in only one match in WCW. The match took place at the 1998 October pay-per-view Halloween Havoc, with Hogan picking up the win after an interference. This win allowed Hogan to level his record with Warrior and avenge that historic loss in WWE.

Warrior, whose real name was Jim Hellwig, once claimed that WCW only signed him because Hogan needed to get a win over him after jobbing to him all those years ago.

He said, “Truth is Hogan has an insecurity complex. They used Ted Turner’s chequebook to buy me to come back so he could feel better about having done the job in 1990. That says a lot about the person.”

For many years after their classic WrestleMania match, Hogan and The Warrior didn’t get along. Their relationship went from bad to worse as the two traded shots at each other regularly.

However, Hogan apologized to his nemesis at the WrestleMania 30 weekend when WWE inducted Hellwig into the Hall of Fame. The Hulkster asked Warrior for his forgiveness for all the bad blood over the years.
