In recent times, Dwayne Johnson has become synonymous with Samoan culture. The former wrestler and Hollywood celebrity was never shy about showing off his heritage and valued his culture a lot. The star belongs to the Anoa’i family and his mother was of Samoan descent while his father, Rocky Johnson, was a Canadian of Black Nova Scotian descent. Regardless, everyone could agree that he is considered one of the most influential people of color in recent times.
However, when Musée Grévin, a wax museum in Paris was accused of ‘white-washing’ his wax figure, the museum promised an update to match it with him. But it looks like people are still not pleased with it.

The wax figure was unveiled on October 16th to much backlash. The statue was again taken back to the workshop to make some alterations to it. According to the reports by the museum, the staff had worked overnight to match the skin tone and make it look more accurate. And now, as the craftsmen have completed their work, the wax museum has revealed another sneak peek of it.

According to the website, the making of this statue was painstaking for the artist as well. The sculptor Stéphane Barret, had to rely mostly on photos and videos to make the statue. The team had visited plenty of gyms to find someone similar to the star’s physique. Apart from that, the tattoos took almost 10 days to be completed and the eyes were redone three times to make the face look warm just like Johnson’s in real life.
The pictures of the modified statue were released recently. But it looks like fans are still not okay with the results.
It’s the thought that counts
Pubity, an entertainment and news community on Instagram recently shared the comparison pictures. Fans quickly rushed in to share their views on the updated statue. While one said, “It’s the thought that counts”, others were not shy to bash it. As one fan said, “They made it worse”, another said it would be better at this point if they just started all over again. Someone even said, “That’s NOT the rock, that’s PAPER!”. One fan pointed out the statue’s uncanny resemblance with Detective Stabler from Law and Order.

Talking about resemblances, some people said, “Ain’t that the Mr. Who cleans”. One fan even compared the statue to Vin Diesel by commenting, “I dunno, still seems a little off, like it’s 22%, Vin Diesel”. There was one fan who commented in a milder way by saying, “I’m not saying they made it worse, but they definitely didn’t make it any better.” One person commented, “Imagine being this artist thinking you did an amazing job. And the whole world bashing you,” showing sympathy for the artist.
