Cody Rhodes is one of the biggest babyfaces in the WWE right now. But when you talk about the entire roster, there is no one bigger than Sami Zayn right now. Especially after his career peak match at Elimination Chamber. So, there is no surprise that WWE didn’t want the audience to cause a disturbance during Rhodes’ segment in Zayn’s hometown of Montreal, Canada.
Giving Rhodes a microphone and letting him speak to the audience might have been a safe bet, but Montreal proved that they were not going to be a silent audience. While that is a significant advantage for a wrestling show, sometimes it could prove to be annoying if the fans try to interrupt live TV. WWE immediately got Heyman on the titantron and the segment went by flawlessly.

While talking about Sami Zayn’s popularity, Dave Meltzer revealed interesting tidbits about the Rhodes-Heyman segment on Wrestling Observer Radio. He said, “The stuff with Cody and Heyman – they were very concerned about Sami chants, which is one of the reasons why they got Heyman out there in seconds.”
“They did not want Cody in there by himself because they thought that–it didn’t happen–but they did everything in their power to make sure they kept that moving. They did not allow the audience a chance to start chanting or anything like that.”
The three Montreal shows across the brands have all seen massive support for Zayn. Whether it was Raw, SmackDown, Elimination Chamber, before his match, after his defeat, or during his biggest match, the audience was behind Zayn. The biggest question lingering over WWE’s head must be how to elongate this popularity. Although he couldn’t capture the title right now, fans agree that Zayn deserves to be a world champion.
