The beginning of the 21st century was a golden period for WWE. There were several iconic fights that made the fans go crazy about the promotion. Many of these were under giant WWE annual events like WrestleMania. Hulk Hogan was an absolute star at the time and an incredible heel. In the first episode of the third season of ‘WWE Legends’, Hogan shared his experience in and out of the nWo. While doing so, he revealed some mysterious details about a match he fought as a member of the infamous group.
Hollywood Hogan was matched with the WWE legend, The Rock in a WrestleMania fight once. The two legends going against each other was exactly what the hypothetical internet audience needed to scream at the top of their lungs. Although the match was brilliantly loved by everyone, Hogan revealed that it did not quite go as planned.

The audience snatches away their support from Dwayne Johnson
Whether the audience support heels or faces has been the topic of debate for too long. But in several instances, people have received their answers. Most of the time, fans prefer a heel over a face. The reason for this choice is unknown. However, the older legend experienced this firsthand in his WrestleMania 18 match. Considering the story arcs, Hogan wanted to do Johnson so dirty that fans would boo at him as he enters the ring.
However, this did not go as planned. “I walk out at WrestleMania 18 and they cheer me out of the building against The Rock,” recalled the WWE legend during the documentary filming. Hogan also vividly remembers how the crowd started to discourage The Rock when he had the upper hand in the fight, but as soon as he blocked a punch to counterattack, “the whole place cheered.”

Why was Hulk Hogan trying to get the boo against Dwayne Johnson?
The one simple answer to this question is that it is the peak of every heel in the promotion. Once fans start to discourage you from your entry as a heel, the infamous character can be seen in full effect. However, Hogan’s character proved that it must not be the case every time around. A few nights prior to the big WrestleMania fight, The Rock had challenged Hollywood Hogan to a fight in the event itself.

To embed the fear in everybody’s mind against the nWo, Hogan recalls his teammates beating the “cr*p” out of The Rock right before they “put him in an ambulance and run it over by a semi.” The irony played itself the best when, even after all these efforts, the outcome came on to be exactly the opposite of what Hogan had planned inside his head.
