The WWE Women’s tag team championships were introduced as an opportunity for showcasing more female talents on the roster. But has it really served the purpose for which it was brought into existence? Did Sasha Banks and Bayley’s tirade for these titles live up to the expectations? If you take a look at their history, the answer is very much debatable.
The global juggernaut has not been able to build a credible tag division for women. Moreover, the titles have arguably proven to be more irrelevant than an opportunity and a recent turn of events solidifies that claim further.

A new season meant new opportunities for WWE superstars right after WrestleMania 39. This proved true in the case of Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. The duo managed to dethrone the dominant team of Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus (who replaced an injured Lita) to capture the WWE Women’s tag team championships a week after The Show of Shows.
Morgan and Rodriguez were looking to become a force to be reckoned with. They even emerged successful in their last title defense against Bayley and Dakota Kai on SmackDown. However, Morgan reportedly injured her shoulder in the match. This led to their next title match against Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green being postponed on RAW the following week.
But the supposed ‘curse’ of the Women’s tag team championships prevailed and WWE decided to vacate the titles this week on SmackDown. The history of the tag team gold for women had seen titles being abandoned, underwhelming matches, and lackluster runs. All this piled up and led to the fans expressing their dissatisfaction about the tag team championships.
These titles are cursed. How many times has this happened?

If WWE 2k 23 GM mode taught us anything it’s that whoever gets these titles will instantly become 10% more popular 😂 but probably still booked poorly.

@WWE Wow, I'm sure the previous champions are devastated they couldn't hold onto their titles… oh wait, who were they again?

One particular WWE superstar was the prime target amidst the title vacancy
A majority of fans showed their displeasure with the WWE Women’s tag team gold following the decision to vacant them. However, the same people did not shy from targeting one particular WWE superstar. It was the same superstar who laid a recent claim to becoming the next champion along with her partner.
That superstar was the ‘Baddest Woman on the Planet’, Ronda Rousey. She came back to RAW last week with her former MMA cohort, Shayna Baszler. The dominant team did not waste any time and attacked Raquel Rodriguez last week to make a statement. Ronda’s actions led to the fans blasting her over the tag titles, with many speculating that WWE’s next move would be to put the championships on Rousey and Baszler.
Keep the titles off Ronda. Thank You.
