Botches are part of pro wrestling. They happen from time to time. While some botches have lesser consequences, others tend to have story-altering effects. Over time, fans have called out such instances, with the latest involving WWE Hall of Famers Rey Mysterio and Edge.
Angry fans took to social media to vent their frustration after they deemed that the Rated R Superstar botched a move, leaving the 49-year-old in a Cody Rhodes-esque situation.

An injury forced Edge to relinquish his WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2011. A few weeks ago, Triple H unveiled the glossy title on Raw, paving the way for the 49-year-old wrestler to regain the gold that he never lost. The Canadian wrestler was one among the 12 superstars vying for the belt. However, AJ Styles cut his run short in the first round itself.
Edge seemingly botched what looked like an attempted spear on Rey Mysterio, who was coming off the top rope. Taking advantage of the situation, Styles hit Edge with a Phenomenal Forearm before pinning him for the win.
Meanwhile, fans weren’t happy with how the actions unfolded.

Calling out the botch, this Instagram user said it’s time for the Hall of Famers to stop. “Love and mad respect to Edge and Rey Mysterio, but that was a very weird botch. There must come a time for every star to stop shining. These guys are hall of famers… Enjoy the rest of your lives, guys,” the comment read.
Another said: “Edge Botched the Spear.”
There were several other reactions similar to the aforementioned one.
“What a botched.”
“THAT WAS A BOTCHED WIN. EDGE DESERVED THAT WIN NOT AJ STYLES‼️‼️”
“Botchamania.”
“Bad botch with Rey and edge there.”
After picking up the win over Edge and Mysterio, ‘The Phenomenal One’ won against Bobby Lashley, who defeated Sheamus and Austin Theory in the first round. Styles will lock horns with former WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia on May 27.
Meanwhile, the loss left Edge with a Cody Rhodes connection.
WWE star Edge fails to complete his story
Hours before his match, the 11-time World Champion posted a video on Twitter, revealing his desire to finish the story. As mentioned above, Edge has never lost the WWE World Heavyweight Championship but was forced to relinquish it due to an injury. Sighting an opportunity, ‘The Ultimate Opportunist’ said, “I also expect to win it. I have to.”

His desire to finish the story was akin to Cody Rhodes’, who was hellbent on finishing his but fell short at WrestleMania 39. The only difference, however, is the age. While Edge is nearing his 50s, Rhodes is still in his 30s.
The 4x WWE Champion has also spoken about his latest run being his last and one wonders if he’ll get his chance to complete his story again. For now, Edge is not among the two finalists fighting for the coveted belt.
