Several months have passed since Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39. The storylines in the WWE have changed and new champions have been crowned. Rhodes himself has gotten involved in a new feud. But he still is yet to let go of the loss at the SoFi Stadium in California on April 2.
During a recent podcast, The American Nightmare recalled the match and revealed what hurts him the most. He also had a stern message for Roman Reigns.

Rhodes was a guest on a recent episode of SI Media With Jimmy Traina. The 38-year-old appeared ahead of the release of his documentary, “American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes.” While discussing the project, he stated that he was unhappy with Roman Reigns for the latter’s statement at the post-match press conference after their WrestleMania 39 bout.
Reigns had said, “…we’re just in the third inning. There is so much left to do.” Speaking about the statement, Rhodes said he took offense to it. He said, “The world or the WWE world does not directly revolve around you. For a while it did, it did.”
The Prince of Pro Wrestling was unhappy with Reigns making it about himself. He said while it’s the third innings for his opponent, “I felt like that was the bottom of the ninth for me,” indicating that it was over for him.
The loss lay waste to Rhodes’ story. On the other hand, he made an interesting comment about finishing his story.
Cody Rhodes’ reaction to ‘finish the story’ catchphrase will likely surprise you
During the early part of the year, the WWE Universe was on the edge of their seat as Cody Rhodes promised them to finish his story. He rode the sentiment as he prepared to take off the belt of Roman Reigns. But at the marquee event, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion had the last laugh.

Just hours later, Rhodes was forced to commence a new rivalry with Brock Lesnar, and within a span of a few hours, the story was buried. Speaking to Sam Roberts of Notsam Wrestling recently, Rhodes said he dislikes hearing the catchphrase. The former WWE Tag Team Champion also called it a meme.
But there’s a ray of hope for Cody Rhodes fans, especially those hoping for him to complete his story. While he has been quiet for months, Rhodes has finally spoken about Reigns. This is likely to reignite the feud, especially with Paul Heyman weighing in.
For now, though, Rhodes will prepare for his ‘rubber match’ against Brock Lesnar. And who knows, maybe after taming The Beast, he’ll go after The Tribal Chief.
