Vince McMahon’s brain and Hulk Hogan’s charisma helped establish WWE as the sports entertainment we all know it as today. In McMahon’s quest to revolutionize the business, he brought many big names from his rivals to WWE.
Hulk Hogan was his biggest acquisition as together they brought immense success to WWE and each other. They were also together in some really tough times for the company, none more so than the notorious steroid scandal of the early 90s.

In 1994, Vince McMahon was accused of illegally providing his pro wrestlers with anabolic steroids and underwent a trial. The court asked Hulk Hogan, one of his star performers in the 1980s, to testify during the trial and it garnered significant media attention.
Hulk Hogan said Vince McMahon didn’t give him steroids
The 1994 steroid scandal threatened to put an end to Vince McMahon and his WWE empire. After the allegation of McMahon being involved in giving steroids to his wrestlers, a high-profile trial followed. The trial included testimonies from many top wrestlers, but Hulk Hogan was by far the biggest name to feature during this case.
During the trial, while Hogan admitted to taking steroids to heal himself from injuries, he said that McMahon never directed him to use them, nor did he provide them personally. This was a sentiment echoed by others during their testimony.
The court acquitted McMahon of all charges as he walked free. Moreover, in a documentary titled “Hulk Hogan and Family”, The Hulkster talked about how everyone thought he was going to put McMahon behind the bars with his testimony.
In the documentary, Hogan said steroids were commonly used in wrestling, baseball, and other sport. He said you could get them if you had a prescription from a doctor.
Speaking on the infamous steroid trial, Hogan said, “I was the star witness. And I was the one that the whole world thought was gonna put the nail in the coffin and send Vince away to jail for 15 years.”

The Immortal One added, “They asked me if Vince McMahon had ever sold me steroids. I said, No. Has Vince McMahon ever sold steroids to other wrestlers? No. The truth was Vince wasn’t any of these things that people said he was.”
It is pertinent to note that during McMahon’s steroid trial, Hogan was signed to WCW, WWE’s biggest rival. Yet not only Hogan appeared for his testimony but also help clear McMahon’s name in the case. The steroid scandal was a testing time for McMahon and WWE.

But thanks to the testimony of Hogan and others, he staged a comeback. McMahon then led his company to unprecedented heights, as it became the top wrestling promotion in the world.
