Money in the Bank 2021 will be the 12th event in the event’s chronology. After last year’s ‘Corporate Ladder’ MITB, this year the PPV returns to the original live version (the first live PPV since WrestleMania 37).
The MITB is one of the most interesting events in WWE, as it takes one superstar and puts him/her on the cusp of greatness. Whoever wins the contract/briefcase gets the opportunity to challenge any world champion at any given point.
Such stipulation led to many intriguing storylines, matches, and finishes. Out of the 21 male winners, 17 went on to win a World Championship. In the women’s division, all three winners of MITB became champions.

Hence, records are built and broken, however, one record stays intact, and it has to do with ‘The Best in the World’ CM Punk. He first appeared in the MITB match in 2007, at WrestleMania 23.
In his WWE career, Punk appeared in 4 of these matches and has won in 2 of these appearances. He is the only superstar in WWE history to win the MITB matches back-to-back.
‘The Voice of the Voiceless‘ first won the contract at WrestleMania 24 (following his debut MITB year). He cashed in the contract on Edge after holding it for 92 days. Punk became the World Heavyweight Championship on RAW.
The following year, Punk won the title again at the MITB match WrestleMania 25. This time he held the contract for 63 days before cashing it in on World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules.

Last year Asuka won the MITB match. But it was later revealed she won the RAW Women’s title itself. After losing her title at WrestleMania 37 this year, Asuka is in the Women’s MITB match again.
Hence, The Empress of Tomorrow is the only candidate this year to have the opportunity of matching Punk’s record. She will compete with Naomi, Alexa Bliss, Nikki A.S.H, Liv Morgan, Zelina Vega, Natalya, and a mystery contender.
