Dwayne Johnson is one of the greatest names to wrestle in the biggest sports industry, WWE. His first run with the company ran through 8 years, from 1996 to 2004. But he missed exchanging fists with some of the legends during his time. Whenever The Rock appeared on WWE TV, the fans were ecstatic by his presence. His mic skills to his character work oozed out his incredible charisma, which helped him greatly in Hollywood. The man made running across the ring a finisher! That is legend-level charisma.
While we regularly talk about his excellent promos and catchphrases, his matches get overshadowed. Especially his WrestleMania X-Seven main event was something out of this world. But one thing that Dwayne Johnson always wanted was to fight the crowd from WCW. And lead among them, Rey Mysterio. As The Rock was leaving WWE in 2004, Mysterio was starting to gain prominence.
WWE Legend Rey Mysterio about talking to Dwayne Johnson
In an interview with Inside the Ropes, Rey Mysterio reveals his meeting with Dwayne Johnson. They ask him about the possibility of a match with The Rock during his initial run with WWE and he said, “Never, never the opportunity. Right when he was filming the Scorpion King 2, it was right after WrestleMania 19. We were in Seattle, and I remember he was flying back to LA to shoot. We had just finished doing an episode of SmackDown. He offered me and Chavo to fly back with him. Man, such an incredible human being.”

“Very very humble, feet flat on the ground and we never had the opportunity to speak about that particular moment, but he did mention to me that he was always a fan, watching us in WCW, and always tune in whenever me were on TV to see what we were doing that night. Yeah, it would have been special, though.”
