The Rock did everything right during his WWE career (except the first few months as Rocky Maivia). However, since the Attitude Era to this day, whenever The Great One touches the mic, he spits fire.
The former champ was so great that his comedy segments were also as good as his regular insulting promos. Wrestling historian and promoter Jim Cornette recently reflected on the time when The Rock’s WWE writer Brian Gerwitz got into a heated argument with WWE legend Paul Heyman.
Brian is currently working for the former champ when he quit WWE in 2015 to work with The Rock’s Seven Bucks Entertainment movie production company.

Brian Gerwitz was a comedy writer for the WWE and in 2000 he worked alongside Paul Heyman. Reportedly, there was some conflict between the two because Gerwitz was a comedy writer and Heyman loved writing things more wrestling-oriented.
Jim Cornette on the fallout between Paul Heyman and the writer of The Rock
Jim Cornette, on the latest Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru podcast, discussed The Rock, as well as The Great One‘s former writer in WWE, Brian Gewirtz.
Back in the early 2000s, Heyman and Gerwitz got into a “screaming” fight where both the writers were arguing about their stand. It difference in opinion started because Gerwitz was a comedy writer and Heyman was a wrestling guy.
“I guess he (The Rock) loves that fu**ing Brian Gewirtz character, the comedy writer. Everybody has got a flaw so The Rock likes the comedy writer. I still wish I could see video of the fu**ing screaming fight that Gewirtz and Heyman got into, where everybody was like, ‘Please let them fight, please let them fight.”
“We got to see this.’ It was over wrestling because Gewirtz is a fu**ing comedy writer – whether you like him or not, everybody’s on different sides of that fence – Heyman’s a wrestling guy. So, I could see that being enough,” he said.

Eventually, everything worked out for the WWE Universe as Rock delivered some of the funniest segments in the history of the business. Chiefly, it was his natural ability to improvise the scripts midway through his promos.
