Some memories live rent free inside our head. Years go by, times change, but they live on. This seems to be the case with The Miz. The WWE superstar is yet to forgive Dwayne Johnson for an incident which involved the two in 2011. The 42-year-old reiterated his stance on the latest episode of Monday night RAW.

The Miz cut a promo, where he took a jab at The Great One, accusing him of trying to sabotage his match at WrestleMania 39. But do you know what happened and why The Miz lashed out at The Rock?

The Miz and John Cena locked horns at the main event at WrestleMania 27. The 2011 marquee event saw The Awesome One put his WWE Championship on the line against the leader of Cenation. After it ended in a double count out, Dwayne Johnson, the event’s host, rushed to the ring.

He started to read out an e-mail from the anonymous general manager of RAW, only stopping midway to deliver his signature “It doesn’t matter what you think” catchphrase and tossing the laptop out. The 51-year-old called for a rematch with new stipulations that said no disqualification.

Seconds later, both Cena and The Miz entered the ring. While the challenger tried to use the Attitude Adjustment on The Miz, the latter managed to thwart the attack by holding on to the ropes. Meanwhile, unaware that Johnson was lurking behind, Cena turned and was hit by a Rock Bottom from the host.

This allowed The A-Lister to crawl back and pin Cena, to retain the title. While he was able to keep his gold, it could have been disastrous for The Miz if Cena managed to get the win. In the scenario of a double count out, The Miz was set to retain his title, which came under threat after Johnson’s announcement.

This didn’t go down well with the former WWE Champion. “In the main event of WrestleMania, The Rock messed my match, my match against John Cena and I was still able to retain the WWE Championship because that is what champions do,” he said on the August 21 episode of RAW.

Although there could be one more reason for The Miz to possess bitterness against The Rock.

When Dwayne Johnson humiliated The Miz in front of 71,000 people

After managing to retain his belt, The Miz’s celebration was cut short by Dwayne Johnson. Following a brief stare down between the two, Johnson hit the winner with a spinebuster and a People’s Elbow. He then proceeded to pose for the people as The Miz lay there humiliated in front of over 71,000 spectators at the Georgia Dome.

This paved the way for a tag team match- The Rock and John Cena vs. The Miz and R-Truth. The bout took place at the Survivor Series on November 20, 2011. The iconic Madison Square Garden played host to the event, which was also Dwayne Johnson’s first WWE match after his WrestleMania bout in 2004.

The Cena-Johnson duo won the match after jostling for over 21 and half minutes. In a deja vu moment for The Miz, he got hit by the same moves which were used by The Brahma Bull at WrestleMania 27. Following the win, Johnson turned on his partner and hit Cena with a Rock Bottom, reigniting their rivalry, which culminated in two epic bouts in the next two WrestleManias.
