‘The Man Who Has Publicly Lied’: After Seemingly Refusing To Work With Cody Rhodes, Ex-WWE Star Drops a Birthday Message on His 38th Birthday

Cody Rhodes is undeniably the ultimate babyface in WWE at present. The ‘American Nightmare’ is also well-known for his gregariousness backstage. It is also no secret that former WWE star, Zack Ryder, now known as Matt Cardona, is one of Cody Rhodes’ best friends in the business. However, lately, Matt Cardona has been poking fun at Cody Rhodes for being a liar. 

Cardona made the accusation while also wishing Rhodes a happy birthday on social media. By the looks of it, the relationship between Cardona and Rhodes is no longer sweet like The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

Cody Rhodes and Matt Cardona go way back. The duo made their debut in WWE in the same year – 2007. Interestingly, both superstars did well in their wrestling careers after leaving WWE. In 2020, Cardona made a surprise debut in AEW. At the time, Rhodes was one of the EVPs of the company. But Cardona’s run in AEW did not last. Moreover, he refused to associate himself with Cody Rhodes. 

On Rhodes’ 38th birthday, Matt Cardona conveyed his wishes in the most peculiar way. He took to Instagram and wrote, “Happy birthday to the man who has publicly lied and called me a pecker checker, @americannightmarecody!”

This isn’t the first time Cardona has taken a dig at Rhodes. During a recent interview with Sam Roberts, Cardona recalled how Rhodes once claimed that Cardona refused to join the Nightmare Family and work with Cody Rhodes in AEW. According to Rhodes, Cardona told the management that he would not wear Nightmare family apparel while Rhodes was in the same room. 

Although Cardona admitted that he did not want to be a part of the Nightmare Family, the discussion did not take place with the management and Rhodes in the same room, according to him. Cardona also said that Rhodes had spread the rumor that he was a “stooge and a pecker checker”.

Nevertheless, it’s evident that Cardona did not want to play second fiddle to Rhodes and hence refused to align himself with his best friend. Maybe Cardona’s dig at Rhodes was in good humor. But it definitely wasn’t a heartfelt birthday wish.

After a hard-fought battle with Brock Lesnar, Rhodes was humiliated by Dominik Mysterio, who slapped him in front of a full-capacity crowd. Although Rhodes tried to retaliate, Rhea Ripley safeguarded ‘Dom Dom’. 

For quite some time now, Dominik Mysterio has been blindsiding Rhodes with cheap shots. But at Money in the Bank, Dominik will go one-on-one with the ‘American Nightmare’. Despite being the underdog, Dominik could still pull out a win because of the ringside presence of Rhea Ripley.
