There is no icon in pro-wrestling history, who has seen the industry evolve like The Undertaker has. The Deadman’s career spanned decades over the most prominent arcs of the WWE. Taker has been at Vince McMahon’s side from the beginning of both their careers, and he has always stayed loyal to The Boss. So, when Taker says there were some McMahon ideas that he wasn’t particularly fond of, it sure is shocking!

The gimmick of the Undertaker has, much like the sport itself, evolved and refined itself over the years. Fans can remember many of Taker’s iconic storylines, from ‘The Brothers of Destruction’ with Kane, to his unforgettable feuds with Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Calaway addressed one such iconic storyline and revealed that he wasn’t too big a fan of the whole thing. He was talking, of course, about the Ministry of Darkness.
The Undertaker and his Ministry of Darkness
After an impressive bout between The Undertaker and Steve Austin at Rock Bottom: In Your House where the Phenom lost, he went on a long hiatus before eventually returning as ‘the dark priest’ who led a faction called ‘The Ministry of Darkness’.
This priest was a much more sinister version of The Deadman, and he claimed to take orders from a “Higher Power.” The Ministry’s fight with Vince McMahon introduced his daughter Stephanie McMahon to the audience, and Taker abducted her, forcing Vince to line up with his enemy, Steve Austin, to get rid of the Phenom.
Taker revealed that the faction, which eventually ended up joining with the Corporation (the McMahon family stable), was not his favorite storyline in the WWE, saying “The Ministry was kind of the last facet of the dark side stuff, I’m not sure it was such a good idea to have the Ministry join with the Corporation. It was all about the McMahons, and meant that the Undertaker was no longer leading the pack.”

How Vince McMahon helped the Undertaker during his initial years
It is important to note why Taker has always been loyal to Vince: the backbone of the WWE gave Callaway his big break and made him everything he is today. As he said once, “One day the phone rang. It was Vince, and he says ‘Is this the Undertaker?” Vince McMahon gave Calaway the idea of the Undertaker gimmick, and let him style the character most of the time.
Although both The Undertaker and Vince McMahon have retired from the WWE, these stories reveal the massive level of talent and effort that goes on behind the scenes, and fans gain a newfound respect for these wrestling heroes.
