Professional Wrestling is a sport that requires one to adapt as per the audience, the wrestler, and, of course, the era they are wrestling in. The rules are simple; adapt and excel or get lost in the shuffle somewhere. One man always knew how to adapt, and that is Chris Jericho. Today marks 19 years to the day ‘Le Champion‘ did the unthinkable!

Sweet Vengeance for Chris Jericho

It was the night of the first-ever Vengeance PPV in 2001 when Chris Jericho became the first ever Undisputed WWF Champion. He became the only man to beat The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the same night.

Chris Jericho and The Rock had a solid match with both men getting the better of each other. It was in the closing moments of the match that the game changed.

Vince McMahon came down to ringside but fell prey to a Rock Bottom. While the referee checked on Mr. McMahon, Jericho hit a low blow followed by a Rock Bottom to win the match.

As soon as the match ended, WWF Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin came out for the championship unification match. Everyone expected Austin to win this one. Kurt Angle tried to interfere in the early going, but The Rock took care of that Olympic situation.

Austin made Jericho tap to the Walls of Jericho, but the referee didn’t see it as he was out cold thanks to a flying forearm smash from Y2J. This allowed Booker T to interfere and attack Stone Cold with the WWF Championship (the two would begin their brief feud from that point onwards).

Chris Jericho quickly capitalized and pinned Austin for the WWF Championship, making him the first ever Undisputed WWF Champion – an achievement that skyrocketed his career.

The once ‘Millennial Man’ is one of the rarest souls you can find out there. Throughout his WWE career, he held over 25 championships including the World Championship six times, the Intercontinental Championship nine-times, and Tag Team Championships seven times!
