The Highest-Paid Actor Dwayne Johnson Not Violating Actors Strike; Amid Sarah Silverman’s Accusations

Holywood has turned into a fiery battleground. The giant production houses have been in deep water since mid-July. Actors and screenwriters have been actively declining to work on projects or even to appear in any promotional events. A total of 11,500 members of the WGA (Writers Guild of America) dropped off on May 2nd. Shortly after, The SAG-AFTRA union’s 16,000 on-screen performers joined forces with them.

Despite garnering endorsement from all across the globe including some premium industry heads like Christopher Nolan, it seems like the strike didn’t sit well with popular actress, Sarah Silverman. In a shell-shocking revelation, she made her stance clear on the nature of the actors’ call-out. As per her, the entire movement is mere hypocrisy and doesn’t serve any real purpose.

To dig into her statement, we should look back at the striking decision of the actor’s union granting 45 solely independent production houses to keep up with their work under strike exemptions. As they are not a part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the prime target of the protestors, they don’t fall under the restricted category. However, Silverman had something else on her mind.

Conveying her counter-emotion, the actress noted, she is really disappointed to see how the actors and actresses who enthusiastically joined her in declining a lot of high-budget projects to match the tone of the situation, now dipped their feet into indie projects.

In a follow-up Instagram video, she went on, “The strike ends when they come to the table and we make a deal and agreement” slamming those artists who decided to take up work amid the strike through the massive loophole of waivers. She foresaw this unwise action might result in a prolonged work stoppage.

Many eminent Holywood figures seconded Silverman’s sentiment. However, amid this controversy, The Rock entered the scene. He quickly rose to headlines granting historic donations to show oneness with those who have stopped working.

Dwayne Johnson supported the actors’ strike with million dollar donation

Dwayne Johnson is the last one to back off from raising his voice for any right cause. When it comes to the internal matter of the industry, he himself belongs to, it’s not surprising that he would come up with his own stance. But this time, his moral support culminated in a handsome amount of financial aid, giving an extra edge to the thousands of protestors.

Nonetheless, Johnson’s much talked about donation came as a response to SAG-AFTRA Foundation president Courtney B. Vance and executive director Cyd Wilson’s humble request to many Hollywood stars, according to a trusted source.

Although we are still in the dark about the exact figure of the grant, Wilson told it’s sufficient to serve the purpose. During a recent interview with Variety, the SAG-AFTRA executive director noted, ”It’s the largest single donation that we’ve ever received from one individual at one time.”

”And what is amazing is that one cheque is going to help thousands of actors keep food on their table.”, Wilson continued.

DJ didn’t weigh in on his grant so far, but his donation speaks for itself. Apart from this, The Rock has also appeared to put his projects on hold and his donations were a way to show that he stands with those fighting for their rights.

Speaking of Silverman’s growing displeasure over the dual nature of the strike, it seemed it has finally been pacified to some extent. Although the actress is still not hundred percent convinced of the idea of the alternative settlement of some actors, her latest discussion with SAG leadership seemed to bear fruit.
