Bret Hart and Bill Goldberg share bad blood from the time when one swift kick from Goldberg cut short Hart’s career. At Starrcade ’99, Goldberg dropped a botched kick on Bret Hart, who was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome soon afterwards. It resulted in Hart having to retire from pro-wrestling for good in 2000.

While the two claim to have let bygones be bygones, both Hart and Goldberg have spoken about the career-ending injury at length in different interviews.

Bret Hart had warned Goldberg before entering the ring

According to Hart, he had specifically asked Goldberg not to hurt him in the ring. Hart’s regret is that his former tag team partner did not take him seriously.

“When I worked with Bill, I always think the last words I said to him before we went out and had that match where he injured me and ended my career. Bill, whatever you do out there, don’t hurt me. We can do whatever you want, we can do anything. Just do not go nuts.”

Therefore, even today, Hart holds a grudge against Goldberg but claims to have vast amounts of respect for him.

The Hitman makes a revelation about Goldberg

Hart believes that Goldberg was a dangerous Superstar in the ring. In a session of Confessions of the Hitman web series, Hart revealed that his former tag team partner was equivalent to a gorilla inside the ring. He did not care about anyone, did not worry about the consequences, and used to inflict actual hurt on his opponents.

“You might as well wrestle a real gorilla. He was the most dangerous guy to work with. He hurt everybody that he worked with; I remember Curt Henning being in pain all the time from the matches they had.”

He even questioned Goldberg’s presence in the list of WWE Hall of Famers. He thinks WWE should exclude any wrestler who does not show consideration towards the opponent inside the ring from this prestigious list.

Goldberg hits Hart with his own comments

Coming to Goldberg, he has expressed remorse for the kick. To him, Hart was special and the last thing he wanted was to injure him. It was an unfortunate situation which turned Bret Hart bitter towards him.

However, Goldberg does not appreciate Hart and others referring to him as violent or malicious. As per him, if he wanted to genuinely hurt Hart, then he would have never gotten up from the ring.
