It wasn’t Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair. It wasn’t even anyone from the young batch of superstars who would go on to become megastars in the future. Wrestlers like Randy Orton, Batista, and John Cena would all fade away in front of Austin. The man who even the Rattlesnake feared to work with was Goldberg. But why?

On the popular podcast, hosted by Chris Jericho, Talk is Jericho Goldberg revealed why the dream match happened. He said, “There’s no question that I wish it would’ve happened. That was the match to have. Why it never happened, I think 90% of the reasoning behind that was [Austin’s] neck issues and my finishing moves, right?”
“Whether it be the spear, whether it be the Jackhammer, I don’t think that those are moves that he would’ve wanted to, wanted to do, nor would his boss would’ve wanted him to do. I think it was a safety issue more so than anything.”
Goldberg is one of the fiercest opponents to be in the ring with. Whether it was in the late ’90s or the late 2010s, the powerhouse brought all the power to the wrestling ring. Just a look at his impressive undefeated streak will show you why he was among Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Sting during WCW.

But in the wrestling ring, one thing wrestlers value above anything is safety. Nobody wants to get an injury during a house show and suffer 6 months because of it. Unfortunately, Goldberg was a risky wrestler to work with. Talking only about his finishers, Jackhammer and Spear, there are career-threatening injuries caused by poor execution of them.
