Samoa Joe is a seasoned athlete who has fought all over the globe. The Samoan Submission Machine plied his trade in TNA for over a decade before coming to NXT in 2015. His run included a run in with former WWE superstar and now AEW’s resident workhorse, Christian Cage.

Just like Samoa Joe, Christian Cage also wrestled across the country, although most of the time he worked for WWE. The Canadian left WWE in 2005 after a successful run where he held the Tag Team Championships seven times and even won the Intercontinental Championship.

He found a new home in TNA and immediately rose to the top. Cage’s rivalries with the likes of Abyss, AJ Styles, Frankie Kazarian and Kurt Angle were all brilliant.

However, one man Cage loved to face was Samoa Joe. In an interview with Bleacher Report, Christian Cage commented on Joe’s WWE release.

“That surprised me. Joe is a super-talented guy. You see it in the ring, and obviously he has tremendous verbal skills. He was a natural as a commentator as well. When you have that kind of multi-talented individual who can wear a lot of hats, that’s invaluable. He truly is, in my eyes, a top performer. He’s not going to have any shortage of suitors when the time comes, that’s for sure.”

Joe’s release came as a shock to every wrestling fan on the planet. Despite his terrific matches, promos and other exploits in his five years in WWE, the company released him as a part of their annual budget cuts. Wherever Joe lands now, he’s going to raise hell and win titles.

Given AEW’s working relationship with IMPACT, Cage also commented on a potential return to the Impact Zone. While the possibility is exciting, Cage might not be interested in returning to his former home. “I don’t have any plans on [returning to IMPACT] right now. I am solely focused on AEW, but who knows what can happen in the future.”

He continued, “I am relatively new here, I don’t think my focus should get too far away from AEW at this point. I am committed to being part of this brand and helping it move forward.”

With a win over Powerhouse Hobbs, Cage remains undefeated in AEW. Ricky Starks might be his next challenger, and that match promises to be a banger.
