“I Wish Serena Had Not Played”: 2-time WWE Hall of Famer Makes a Bold Statement on Serena Williams’ U.S. Open Exit

Serena Williams recently announced her retirement from Tennis after the 2022 US Open. Fans assume that she was recently in her last dance in all the matches she will have. Moreover, Williams also teamed with her sister Venus Williams in the doubles tournament. 

However, Williams lost to the Czech duo of Lucie Hradecká and Linda Nosková. Surprisingly, WWE legend Ric Flair shared his thoughts in the doubles match Willams had.

In the recent episode of  ‘To Be The Man #20’ podcast, Conrad Thompson asked Ric Flair what fan comments bother him. Flair said, “I get really tired of ignorant opinions”. He gave an example of the same by sharing his opinion about Serena Williams’ recent doubles match.

‘The Nature Boy’ said, “I’m such a tennis fan. I could never say this, but I will say it, would never say it on Twitter or something, but I wished Serena had not played the doubles match before. And I know she did it because she and her sister are very close. She made a decision based on emotion.”

He added, “But Serena should still be in the tournament and I believe she would be if she hadn’t played that doubles match the night before. That’s who she is. That’s what makes her greatest of all time.”

Flair is a huge fan of Williams and he also shared a heartwarming message to the Tennis star when she announced her retirement. He shared the message through his twitter.

He wrote, “The Respect For @serenawilliams This Evening As I Watch Is Unbelievable, Better Than The Academy Awards. The Tiger, Dion, Zendaya, etc. God Bless. Win Or lose You Will Be The Best Of All Time. Keep On Keeping On! 🙏🏻”

The 2-time WWE Hall of Famer showed tremendous respect for the career of Serena Williams. Serena Williams’ possibly last of her career came against Ajla Tomljanovic on September 2nd. 

Ric Flair praises Serena Williams

After sharing his opinion about Serena Williams, he praised the Tennis star for having an illustrious career. He compared her with the top stars of basketball.

Flair said, “I mean Margaret Court is upset about that comment, but it’s like they’re still talking about Michael (Jordon). They’re still talking about LeBron (James). I don’t hear anybody’s name in the conversation except Kobe (Bryant).”

The 16-time world champion added, “Now they’re still talking about Wilt (Chamberlain) and Shaq (O’Neal). So to be 41 years old playing semi-finals with a five years old daughter and to be playing her a** off, god bless Serena Williams”

He further talked about Williams being the number 1 ranked Woman Tennis player for a long time. Moreover, he claimed the 23-time Grand Slam winner has no problem passing the torch to the next top star.
