We are just halfway through 2023 and we have already seen so much action in the WWE. The implosion of The Bloodline, Jey breaking Roman Reigns’ 1294 days unbeaten streak and Seth Rollins winning the inaugural World Heavyweight Championship to name a few.

And with another 5 months to go, we can only anticipate the action that awaits us in the coming future. But looking back at 2023, many wrestlers had to take a hiatus owing to injuries like Liv Morgan and Dakota Kai, while others have been consistent in their performance and have thus been able to perform every week to entertain their fans. A recent list showing the most matches fought by a WWE wrestler in 2023 revealed an unusual superstar at the top.

Having a match every coming week on RAW or Smackdown depends very much on the popularity of a particular superstar. As in the case of Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins and Cody Rhodes, whom the fans love so much that they even sing their entrance music in unison. These wrestlers are important to the WWE programming and hence are featured regularly on their shows.

A recent list put out by WrestleFeatures on Twitter showed which wrestlers have fought the most matches in 2023 yet. At 5th position is ‘The Ring General’ Gunther with 57. He will be facing the ‘Scottish Warrior’ Drew McIntyre while defending his Intercontinental title at SummerSlam. The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes is tied in with Gunther with 57 matches as well. Tied together at 2nd position are Seth Rollins and ‘Senior MITB’ Damian Priest with 58 matches.

The superstar who is at the very top of this list will be facing Santos Escobar while defending his United States Championship at SummerSlam. We are talking about none other than Austin Theory. It will be strange for fans to see him at the top of this list, since they may not recall him doing much after his WrestleMania 39 win over John Cena.

Or maybe we were just too occupied with the matches of other superstars like Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes. The list also includes matches from live events and house shows and while Theory hasn’t wrestled much on TV, his rank at the top may come due to his untelevised matches as well. But this is just the list for the year 2023.

Another list came out just a week ago mentioning the wrestlers with the most matches in WWE history. And you will be shocked to know who tops this list.

‘The Big Red Machine’ Kane has wrestled the most matches in WWE History

When we think of most matches wrestled, we often think of names like Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker or even Edge given the longetivity of their careers. But none of these names even made it to the top 15 of that list.

At number 15 we have ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes with 1128 and that number will definitely increase. We also have Seth Rollins at 9th position with 1224 matches and John Cena at 8th position with 1412 matches.

Above them at 5th position is out-of-action superstar Randy Orton with 1486 matches. These numbers will definitely increase post his recovery from his back fusion surgery. And the leader of the pack is none other than ‘The Big Red Machine’ Kane with 1802 matches in his career spanning almost 25 years. And seems like he will be sitting comfortably at the top for quite some time as the 2nd positioned Dolph Ziggler is almost 250 matches away from Kane’s record.

But what are your views on Austin Theory being the most consistent in-ring performer in 2023?
