One of the breakout performances in 2021 was by John Cena when he wore the chrome helmet of Peacemaker. The WWE veteran first played the role of the DC character in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad back in 2021. Fans loved his acting so much that they wanted to see him play the role once again. The prayers of the fans were answered as Warner Bros approved a spin-off series. Peacemaker starring John Cena in the titular role aired back in 2022. However, it has been almost a year with no solid updates on the progress of season 2. But an update has surfaced as John Cena subtly dropped a hint on season 2’s progress.

Will John Cena reprise the role of Peacemaker?

Fans saw John Cena at the red carpet event of Zac Efron’s latest drama movie, Iron Claw. Upon being asked about the progress of the second season, Cena stated that there have been some things moving at the DC headquarters lately. However, according to the Leader of the Cenation, James Gunn has provided an update on the series. The DC head honcho in a statement said that fans might get to see season 2 pretty soon. Cena also added that Gunn is a man of his word. This does solidify the rumors season 2 could arrive sooner rather than later. Upon being asked whether fans might get to see a Peacemaker musical, Cena replied, “Stranger things have happened” leaving the answers open for fans to interpret.

James Gunn, who has directed both Suicide Squad and Peacemaker Season 1, donned the role as the new co-CEO of DC Studios along with Peter Safran back in November 2022. The visionary director who proved his mettle for his work on Marvel Studios’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies has stated that he is working on revamping the new cinematic universe of the DC Studios.

Apart from many projects the director and screenwriter will be undertaking, the one green-lit by the studio is the Superman: Legacy movie. Fans will see David Corenswet don the role of Superman while Nicholas Hoult plays his arch nemesis Lex Luthor in 2025.

Season 1 of the spin-off series did wonders with the character and paved the way for establishing numerous characters. While the season concluded a story, it had left fans with some questions. Here is what might happen in the next season (spoilers for season 1 and Suicide Squad ahead!!!)

What might happen in Peacemaker Season 2?

The first season picked up where the Suicide Squad movie left off. By the end of the movie, audiences saw Peacemaker killing Ric Flag (played by Joel Kinnaman). Bloodsport (Idris Elba) then injured him to end his involvement in the movie. In season 1, Christopher Smith, a.k.a Peacemaker, earned his release from the hospital following the treatment of his injuries. Amanda Waller then recruited him again for a mission that involved human-possessing butterflies. In the final episode, Peacemaker defeated the said leader of the alien butterflies (in gory fashion) but left fans with some questions.

The finale also saw an unexpected ending. Before the dust settled, Adebayo (played by Danielle Brooks) reveals the secrets of Task Force X a.k.a The Suicide Squad, the butterflies, and even her mother Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) framing her as the mastermind. Peacemaker has earned notoriety for having this information and is now considered a threat. According to reports, the second season will pick up after the spin-off series Waller. The plot of the series has not come to light yet, but we can assume that Amanda Waller dealing with the aftermath of the actions of her daughter would play a pivotal part.
