Stone Cold Steve Austin’s Rarely Known Disability Almost Ruined His Wrestling Career

Stone Cold Steve Austin has proved himself as a champion, not only inside the ring but also outside the ring. He enjoyed massive success during his pro wrestling days. But success did not come easy for the Texas Rattlesnake.

Austin had to surpass several hurdles and even fought against a disability that could have ruined his professional wrestling career. Now, many of you might not know that Stone Cold Steve Austin had a hearing problem in one ear since he was a kid.

The 3-time Royal Rumble winner opened up on this disability of his to the fans in his book, The Stone Cold Truth. He claimed he does not hear very well if there’s a lot of background noise.

Steve Austin noted, “It’s not sports or wrestling related, but something I’ve had since birth. I had my tonsils and adenoids taken out and was always going to hearing doctors as a kid because I had a lot of fluid in my ears.”

The WWE legend further added, “I never considered it a disability; I just dealt with it. It was something that was ongoing, and then when I listened to lots of loud rock music and made my loud wrestling entrances, it got worse. Outside of wrestling, I lean into people and kind of watch their lips and face. In the arena, in the ring, I just can’t hear the other guy.”

As per Stone Cold Steve Austin, he had a disability coming into this pro wrestling business. Because of this hearing disability of his, he started learning how to call a match, and he did not have to listen to anybody. He talked and the others guys listened.

Stone Cold Steve Austin once again showed his fighting spirit at this year’s WrestleMania

Well, one can claim that life has been tough on the Texas Rattlesnake. Not only did he have a hearing problem since his birth, his pro wrestling career got cut short in 2003 following serious injuries. And he retired.

However, at WrestleMania 38, Austin shocked everyone and came out of his retirement. He competed in a match inside the squared circle before the WWE Universe for the first time in almost 19 years. And he did not disappoint the fans.

Not only did he defeat Kevin Owens on Night One of WrestleMania 38, he entertained the fans throughout the match just like he did in the past. And at Night Two, he rekindled his old rivalry with Vince McMahon.
