CM Punk is one of, if not the most controversial pro wrestling stars in the world. Lately, the talk of his AEW return is a hot topic on the internet. He is said to return to the promotion somewhere around June. But, his WWE and Impact Wrestling backstage appearances have also left a big question mark on his relationship with his employer company.

Given his controversial nature, it is no secret he has made some rivals in the industry. Everyone is familiar with his real-life beef with Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, and Tony Khan, which he addresses in a deleted Instagram story. Plus, his backstage brawl with The Elite last year has soured his relationship with the faction members.

However, there are some stars who still share a great bond with him. And Steve Austin is one of them. In a recent interview, he heaps praise of the AEW star while addressing his latest controversies.

Steve Austin lauds CM Punk

‘The Texas Rattlesnake’ recently had a conversation with Forbes’ Alfred Konuwa. During the interview, he revealed he didn’t know Punk had injured his arm while fighting against Moxley in AEW All Out PPV last September. He had just found out about it, therefore he texted him on May 19 to check on him.

He said, “Man, I just sent Punk a message last night. I didn’t know he had torn his triceps, I haven’t been following anything. I don’t know what’s going on with that. Me and Phil trade messages every here and there. We rarely talk, probably once or twice a year.”

Both stars are good friends. They rarely talk with each other, but they text each other very often. He is not only his friend, but his mentor as well. He confessed he feels elated that he got to mentor his friend. But he also highlights the fact that ‘Second City Savior’ achieved the majority of his success on his own.

“Maybe he looked up to me back in the day, but I don’t know if I so much mentored him because I think he paid his own dues. He learned it the way he did, and he got over on his own merits. The fact that maybe I could have been somewhat of an influence would be flattering if that were the case. But he’s made his own career,” he added.

During the interview, Alfred Konuwa asked him to comment on the latest controversies surrounding ‘The Best in the World’. Let’s see what he had to say about it.

Austin chose not to make any comments on Punk’s ongoing controversy

‘Stone Cold’ said that he can’t make any comment regarding the controversies, as he is unaware of the situation as a whole. So it won’t be fair to make a judgment with little to no knowledge about the subject. He mentions he is not an avid follower of AEW. But he enjoys catching up with PPVs from time to time.

He said, “But I don’t even know what’s going on with the current situation or what they’re doing because right now I rarely watch any of the product. I watch all the pay-per-views and major pay-per-views, but he’s certainly carved out a hellacious career in his own right by his own right.”
