John Cena doesn’t hold back when it comes to work. The big career that started off as a wrestler has led him to Hollywood. And now, even after working as an actor in live-action films and voice artist in animated ones, Cena has tried his luck in one more industry. It appears that the Hollywood superstar is entering the video game industry, too.
While he might not have the required qualifications to become a game developer, Cena undoubtedly has the skills and experience to voice a character. Much like Keanu Reeves’s character in the 2022 next-gen game ‘Cyberpunk’, Cena is also entering the industry as a character that he himself played. But are the grounds safe for him to step foot on?

Gaming fans would be aware that the renowned fighting video game series ‘Mortal Kombat’ recently received a reboot. With the release of Mortal Kombat 1, characters were reintroduced. And just the past few entries in the series, this one will also have a ‘Kombat Pack’ in which Peacemaker is also included as a playable character. Much to the surprise of the game’s fans, Cena is the one voicing his character.
This is the first time he is working on a video game character. However, his entry into the industry isn’t as smooth as it looked. A strike seems imminent between the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and video game companies. An article by Kotaku suggests video game voice actors may be ready to go on strike. The topic of the strike appears to be pay-related and also about companies using AI to alter voice performance however they like.

Although people would assume that this strike may halt John Cena’s grand entrance into the video game industry, this may not be the case. This is because he was still playing his cards during the WGA strike in Hollywood.

The Writers Guild of America was on strike for a long time. They were joined by SAG-AFTRA as well. The concerns were pretty similar to the ones that are being raised in the video game industry right now. The only difference was the involvement of WGA in Hollywood. Even though this stopped a number of projects in Hollywood, John Cena was still minting money.
This was the time when he actually got his Warner Bro’s deal confirmed for voicing Peacemaker in Mortal Kombat 1. The WWE legend was able to confirm the deal in the middle of the strike and if things stay in his favor, he would be able to profit from it despite the conditions in the industry.
