Social media has become a part of our daily lives. It gives the users a glorious opportunity to be up to date with what their favorite celebrities are up to. That’s the reason famous personalities enjoy a large following on the internet. Sometimes they grace their fans with responses to their comments.

Many times it is a healthy conversation between the two parties. However, sometimes popular names get irked by the lack of knowledge in some of the comments on the internet. That was the case with a former WWE tag team champion who hit out at a fan for his ignorance on a subject.

Bully Ray aka Bubba Ray Dudley is a legendary name in wrestling owing to his contributions to the historic tag team The Dudley Boyz. He recently did not like a fan’s comment on his post and made it clear with his response. This occurred when Ray shared the highlights of the famous SummerSlam 2000 TLC match on his account. He posted, “No ladders held be Refs. ps…Enjoy the highlights.”

The WWE Hall of Famer was taking a dig at AEW referees recently holding the ladders while wrestlers performed the moves. In his opinion, the whole sanctity of wrestling is in serious doubt if the officials get involved.

The snippets of the match the former tag team champion shared also featured The Hardy Boyz and the Canadian duo of Edge and Christian. A user pointed out, We just gonna ignore matt holding the ladder for Jeff? I mean great match but it’s like we’re harping on being cautious”.

Ray came up with a frustrated response of his own, “This is where the modern-day ignorance of wrestling fans like yourself shines through…Matt is supposed to hold the ladder for Jeff…NOT a Ref. A Ref. is supposed to be unbiased and not aid wrestlers in any way. Smarten up”.

The  2000 match featured a spot where Jeff Hardy performed a leg drop from the top of the ladder. And his partner Matt Hardy held the ladder while he performed the aerial maneuver. Ray clarified that it was not the holding of the ladder that he had an objection to, it was a referee holding the ladder that he was against.

Referees play an important role in wrestling

For the unversed, referees play an important part in a wrestling match other than pinfalls or submission. They are an integral part of the success of a match in the squared circle. They definitely earn their pay. However, their involvement is largely a secret to the fans’ eye.  And seeing the Hall of Famer’s recent post it is quite clear that he wants it to stay that way.
