Fatu, the son of late WWE Superstar Umaga, joined Booker T’s wrestling school Reality of Wrestling in December 2022 and made his in-ring debut at their “Summer of Champions IX” event on July 15, 2023. Since Booker T. runs the promotion, he worked with Fatu before his first match.

And he described him to be just like his father. He had the speed and the explosiveness. In fact, King Booker could even feel the presence of the Late great Umaga in the ring. So with such outstanding talent, why isn’t Zilla Fatu in the WWE yet? Well, that could be because of his past as a prisoner. And recently he provided the details of it all.

During a recent interview with Joey Franchize, Zilla Fatu opened up on his past. He revealed that after losing his father Umaga back in 2009, Fatu found himself mixed up with the wrong crowd. And that early decision in his life led him to end up going to prison at a young age. At the mere age of 15, Fatu was charged with aggravated robbery. Because of this, he had to spend six years at the Texas State Penitentiary before being released in March 2022.

He said, “I’m the youngest and growing up. It was just a lifestyle. You feel me? I didn’t really have it in my mind that I was gonna do it. Like when I’m grown, until you know, obviously, I hit rock bottom, you know, I just did six years in the pen.” Fatu further adds that now the Anoa’i is trying to put his life back together. And just like his father, he is now trying to make a name for himself in the industry. He said, “So I’m now, came home and I just want to give it a shot. And ever since then, it’s been it’s been gravy. You know, but we still in the lab, we still working. So I’m just excited. I’m happy to that, I’m able to do this because it brought me closer to who my pops was. So that’s awesome, man.”

In the same interview, he said, “You got Roman, The Usos, The Bloodline, they taking it to a whole another level. So it’s really a family business, for real, and I’m just so happy and blessed to be a part of this. I’m coming up too. Like I said, I’m on the indies, but I’m not in no rush.”. He further revealed that he is more interested in being in the WWE. His family has a long history with the Stamford-based promotion. And he does not want to be the first Anoa’i to join the rival promotion. As he believes it would break the cycle. What do you make of Fatu’s words on his past?
