“Shoutout to Ric Flair”: UFC Fighter Credits WWE Legend After He Roasts Kansas City Crowd During His Post-Fight Promo

With great skills in fighting in the octagon, the current world of sports entertainment demands excellent mic skills as well. The combination of these two can only help a fighter to promote himself widely. UFC fighters are known to be good at trash-talking a key aspect of pro wrestling as well. And recently this led to a UFC fighter walking in the footsteps of WWE legend, Ric Flair. 

After scoring a victory over his opponent, TJ Brown, at UFC Fight Night, the champion, Bill Algeo tried to imitate Flair. More than his fight, it appeared like his post-fight promo attracted much attention. 

Following his second-round submission of Brown with a rear-naked choke, Algeo proceeded to trash the crowd similar to what The Nature Boy used to do back in his pro wrestling days. Even the fighter credited Flair for the same.

Speaking on The MMA Hour With Ariel Helwani, the Featherweight division fighter shed light on his post-fight promo that made the headlines. It’s pretty much known to all how Algeo roasted the Kansas City crowd by labeling the city as a “dump” and pledging to never retire there. He continued being a heel by mentioning the not-so-pleasurable features of the city.

Although some thought of it as a savvy move to generate buzz, others found the scenario to be a replica of WWE. However, the star himself clarified it in the podcast.

He said, “I was giving a shoutout to Ric Flair and his retirement but I think he did it in North Carolina where he was from, and he sold it for 5-10 minutes.”

“I didn’t have that kind of time, but I thought, it’d be funnier, instead of playing to the crowd, I just start making fun of them. I asked my cornermen if they were selling glass beverages out in the audience,” the 33-year-old added.

With these statements of Algeo, it’s pretty clear from whom he got inspired to deliver the promo but was also careful about going ahead with it. However, before Algeo credited Flair for his post-fight promo, fans tried guessing the inspiration behind his mic work. 

Fans speculated a different star before Algeo named The Nature Boy behind his roast of the crowd

As soon as the MMA world encountered what all Bill Algeo said to the Kansas City crowd, they couldn’t resist commenting on the matter. Surprisingly, some fans thought of a particular fighter after seeing the recent episode. 

On Instagram, a fan straight away said, “Featherweight Colby Covington,” while another one made a similar reference saying, “He on his Colby arc”

“Cringe lol Colby wannabe”, wrote another fan.

One pointed out the similarity of the incident with WWE.

“WWE creepin in already.”
