“She Had A Glazed Look Over Her Eyes”: Dwayne Johnson Recalls Saving His Mother’s Life After She Had A Fight With His Father Rocky Johnson

Dwayne Johnson comes from a generational wrestling family. His grandfather Peter Maivia and his father Rocky Johnson were recognizable names in pro wrestling. However, growing up in a wrestling household came with its challenges that toughened up ‘The Great One’.

The Rock once narrated such an incident growing up that made him realize how precious life was. ‘The Brahma Bull’ recalled his parents once got into a loud argument at a restaurant and how he stepped up to save his mother.

How did The Rock protect his mother?

The Rock’s father had to frequently move to different places because of the wrestling business, and this instability created its own problems.

Financial instability and arguments affected the family, becoming a common occurrence. The former Royal Rumble winner narrated how this one time he protected his mother when his father lost his temper.

In an appearance on the Opera Winfrey Network, the Hollywood star recalled the incident saying, “ they got into that car my dad was driving and my mom was in the passenger seat […]. I’m watching them right in front of me, and their car starts swerving. And I can clearly see that they are arguing. My old man makes a hard right, and he gets on the shoulder and the gravel road.”

He continued, “My mom gets out of the car and when she got out of the car, I’ll never forget as she had a glazed look over her eyes and I had never seen before and she walked right into the middle of I-65 and continues to walk down into oncoming traffic.”

The Rock says this sprang him into action and he saved his mother. 

He narrated, “My heart stopped and horns were blowing and cars were swerving off the way, 18-wheelers were swerving out of the way. I got out of the car and I grabbed her and wrestled her over to the side of the road. I don’t remember what I said to her, I remember she didn’t say a thing. And in that moment, one of the greatest lessons I’ve ever learned was how precious life is and how an instant can all go away.”

This incident was one of many in the early life of the future WWE Hall of Famer, preparing him for the life ahead.

Dwayne Johnson is an inspiration, making it big in wrestling and Hollywood

Following his early struggles, Johnson found tremendous success in WWE as ‘The Rock’. He would have memorable moments and win multiple championships, becoming a household name.

Later, the former WWE Champion took his talents to Hollywood and has become an A-List celebrity.
